Besides permanent offices the HSD Campus also offers the possibility of flex working. Especially meant for SME and freelancers but also available for organisations that want to use the facilities on the HSD Plaza on a flexible basis. The introduction of a flex working concept comes from the idea that all innovative entrepeneurs in the security field should be able to work and build their business on the HSD Campus. So far five parties have used this possibility, adding even more liveliness to the campus. And due to the growing interests the capacity will be increased with the extension of the campus to the 6th floor .

NCTV and  Advenica tell about  their experiences as a flex worker at the campus so far.

Inspiring environment
The NCTV (National Coordinator of Counterterrorism and Security) innovation team residing onder the Ministry of Justice and Security has been active on the HSD Campus from early on since its opening in February 2014. The NCTV also actively contributed to this event. The NCTV innovation team stimulates and finances innovation projects of public security partners. Also, they coordinate the Dutch input related to security for the European innovation agenda ‘Horizon 2020’ and, together with the support of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), they help with the formation of consortiums in order for Dutch parties to successfully participate in the Horizon 2020 program.

But Klaassen, Program Manager Innovation at the NCTV: ”Shorty after the opening, in March, we hosted the NSS Innovation Room and after that we thought it would be a good idea to be regularly present at the campus. Our regular office is at the Ministry of Security and Justice, but we like variety and the inspiring environment of the campus and its tenants. We therefore try to have our day with team meetings at the campus as often as possible. We can be found at the campus floor every Tuesday.”

HSD Campus concept offers great benefits
Another enthusiastic flex worker is Advenica’s Managing Director Bob van Gils:” I joined the HSD Campus right after the summer holidays and I think that I was one of the first flex workers. In my role as sales representative of the Swedish based Advenica in the Benelux I benefit much from the HSD Campus concept. “ Advenica develops state of the art solutions for information security like VPN's, datadiodes and DLP filters.” I think that Advenica's innovative character, the modern interior and the professional aproach at the HSD Campus go very well together’, says Van Gils.” Many customers prefer to visit us at the HSD Campus as the railway station is close and ...... they praise the coffee.”

SME Connect: support for HSD networkpartners
SME Connect is not a flex working organisation, but a helpdesk for SMEs in the security cluster. It consists of consultants of the Chamber of Commerce, TNO, and the Municipality of The Hague. SME Connect plays an important role within HSD as they support SME networkpartners of HSD (including flex workers), connecting them with other parties in the HSD network such as businesses, knowledge institutions, financial parties and governmental institutions. Oscar Lauf, Coordinator SME Connect: "Through MKB Connect new companies were put in touch with HSD Campus, some of which actually decided to become a flex worker or hire a permanent office. To add even more value, MKB Connect is also co-organiser of knowledge meetings at HSD Campus, where all kinds of relevant topics are discussed and tackled. A benefit for all partners involved."
