Dutch Government Features Search Engine as Privacy Example

On Wednesday 12 June 2019 Dutch Legal Protection Minister Sander Dekker payed a working visit to Network Partner Startpage at the HSD Campus. Dekker features in his new privacy “vision letter” as an example of a company that respects consumer data. Dekker sent the letter to the House of Representatives Friday to start a debate about how the government can help citizens take back their online privacy.


“It is important that people become more aware of the consequences of sharing personal data,” Dekker wrote in his letter. “Dutch initiatives such as the search engine, where no personal data is stored, contribute to the protection of the privacy of citizens.” delivers search results without logging or sharing any user personal information. is a resident at the Campus since 2016.


Dekker and members of his Cabinet toured Startpage headquarters at the HSD Campus in The Hague as part of the new initiative. During the working visit, they met with the Team to discuss the importance of online privacy and how search engines play a central role in this.
