It is well known that global companies such as Google, Amazon, Facebook and many others have been investigating and investing in UAV’s to up service delivery and to improve efficiencies.

And now the African market is opening up.

“Test flights are planned in Africa for later this year. The continent is regarded as an ideal arena because its airspace is not congested, and because poor roads mean that demand for cheap air cargo is immense”, reports  The Economist (April 2015).

Africa is widely regarded as the next big opportunity.

In South Africa, for example, the SA Civil Aviation Authority (SAACA) last week announced that the long awaited regulations have been now been signed by the Minister of Transport.

The finalisation of the legislation is expected to boost investment in UAV technologies and services in sectors such as: • Oil, Gas and Pipelines • Mining • Farming and Commercial Agriculture • Border Security, Policing and Law Enforcement • Public and Private Infrastructure • Facilities • Wildlife and Conservation • Government • Broadcasting • Real Estate • Emergency Services

And this is the sort of movement in Africa that is expected to open up massive opportunities for suppliers to the UAV market.

The Commercial UAV Show Africa, to be held in Johannesburg in November later this year, is part of a global series of events designed to educate and help buyers from the above sectors to source solutions. Visit their website.
