HSD Café: Private Funding Opportunities: Investors, Bank Credit and Crowd Funding
We would like to invite you to our next HSD Café on Thursday 02 April, on “Private Funding Opportunities: Investors, Bank Credit and Crowd Funding”.
In previous Café’s, financial collaboration between the private and public sector with respect to funding of security companies, innovations and projects was mainly focused on government subsidization. This Café is dedicated to exploring the alternatives to government financing, such as crowd funding, private equity and credit and will expand upon its advantages and disadvantages. Financing from the private sector is often regarded as more flexible with regards to the needs of businesses and more willing to invest in experimental and innovative projects. However, many companies in the security sector are unaware of the variety of funding and which type of private finance is most advantageous to their goals.
What are the most significant implications for business that apply for credit or equity? Under which conditions are these funding types most appropriate, and how could this type of funding be utilised for your company to be founded, to develop and sell products and to grow and expand beyond the initial stages? These matters will be discussed by a panel of experts from the private finance industry. An overview of the various private funding instruments relative to the maturity of the company and business risk will be provided. Each instrument and opportunity to obtain this type of funding will be introduced briefly.
Next, three instruments will be addressed in more detail: bank credit, venture capital and crowd funding. Speakers will present purpose, applicability, advantages, disadvantages and the role of their organisation in obtaining this type of funding.
The HSD Café is set up as follows: from 16:00 until 16:20, three speakers will briefly introduce the topic of this HSD Café:
- Jan Wind of WISER Consultancy will introduce private funding instruments in general and the role of banks, private equity and other funding sources.
- Pim Jansen and Nico Arkesteijn of the Rabobank region The Hague will present opportunities to raise debt and the role of the Rabobank start-up desk.
- Johan Stins of InnovationQuarter will discuss venture capital and options to obtain this type of investments in general and the role of Innovation Quarter for companies in the province of Zuid-Holland.
- Maarten Stikkelorum of WISER Consultancy will describe the opportunities of crowd funding through several Dutch platforms and the role of WISER Consultancy in the development of funding solutions in complex situations.
The presentations will be followed by a discussion during which questions can be answered. From 17:00 onwards there will be drinks and networking opportunities.

About the HSD Café
The HSD Cafés are organised for HSD partners on every first and third Thursday of each month (except on public holidays). From cyber security, drones to critical infrastructure, 20 sessions will be organised around security topics relevant for businesses, governments, and knowledge institutions. In the first hour (16.00-17.00) of each HSD Café, experts will briefly present a security topic, dilemma, or innovation, followed by an informal discussion.
The second part of the HSD Café (17.00-17.45) will consist of drinks and a possibility to network. The HSD Cafés provide an excellent opportunity to meet (potential) business partners, bring along your contacts, expand your knowledge, and shape the debate on key security issues of the future. Tell us what you think. Let your voice count, expand your network, and join the debate!
Unfortunately there is no parking available underneath the HSD Campus. From 14.00h. you can park for free in the neighbourhood.
